This week it’s been said that the Samsung S9 is the best way to ditch the DSLR; with that, we’re expecting a fair few amateur photographers to start to sell old compact and digital cameras.
What is it that’s making the latest camera phones so great? Samsung, amongst other brands, have copied features usually found in DSLR cameras. These are notoriously bulky and complex cameras, yet the S9 offers many loved features from the comfort of your phone.
Mobiles first started featuring cameras in November 2000; when they were first released they didn’t pose a competition to the camera market due to their poor quality. It may have taken 18 years to catch up, but things may be about to change.
When the Samsung S8 was launched there was a distinct difference in the camera it featured; unlike other brands on the market, it enabled the user to switch to portrait mode and alter features similar to those found in DSLR cameras.
The new S9 features a dual aperture lens which can switch into pro shooting mode; this is key to achieving the blurry foreground or background seen in traditional photography.
While mobile phone companies continue to put pressure on the camera industry it’s no surprise bloggers, vloggers and amateur photographers are flocking to a more portable high spec phone as an alternative to a DSLR and compact cameras.
The Google Pixel 2 is another phone which is marked as having an incredible camera; the praise is focused on its stabilisation feature, something that had not been widely used in phones before. The camera on this device even has a fantastic aperture for great low-light shots, something that’s been lacking on phone cameras for a number of years.
